Liberia: Mobile Money Goes Academic

MARCH 21,2014.

THE NEW DAWN.

The Lonestar Cell MTN Mobile Money Service has reached nine schools in and around Monrovia with students taking advantage of the service to pay their tuition.

The Mobile Money Department of Lonestar Cell MTN on Wednesday, 19 March held a mini raffle draw for students, who used the service on the campus of the Philips Preparatory School in Fiama, Sinkor to pay their school fees.

Over forty (40) students of the Philips Preparatory School used the service to pay their tuition for academic 2013/2014.

Five out of the 40 students won a cell phone each and SIM card from mobile money for using the service. The lucky winners include Victoria Stephens, Mayumu Kamara, Komassa Worbo, Joana Clemens and Maxwell Dolo.

The Principal of the Philips Preparatory School Madam Mathe Philips, said the service provided easy transaction for students as they don't need to face the headache of queuing in banks to pay tuition, but remain home and pay their fees through mobile money via cell phones.

She thanked the Lonestar Cell MTN family for the introduction of mobile money service in her school and encouraged her students to prevail on their parents to pay their fees through the service. Madam Philips described the service as good for the modern age in Liberia, where most parents are busy and don't have time to stand in queue at banks to pay their kids' school fees. Mobile Money Manager Madam Samira Tweh thanked the school administration for allowing the service on its campus, assuring that Lonestar Cell MTN will continue to make life easy for all Liberians. Madam Samira Tweh said about nine schools in Monrovia have accepted the service on their various campuses for students to pay fees through the service.

She, however, on behalf of Lonestar Cell MTN presented a set of computer and Lonestar Cell fast internet 4G model to the school to enable the administrators use the internet and check if students have paid all fees through mobile money.

The Lonestar Cell MTN Mobile Money Service can be transacted in every part of Liberia that has Ecobank and GT Bank services. It can also be carried out at every Lonestar Cell MTN Mobile Money Branded booth or shops across the city.
