Vodafone Uses Huawei for M-Pesa in Romania
Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced it has supplied the mobile money service platform for Vodafone’s new M-Pesa service in Romania. This is the first time that M-Pesa – Vodafone’s leading mobile money transfer and payment service – has been launched in Europe.
Under the partnership, Huawei has deployed the mobile money platform for Vodafone to launch its first mobile money service in Romania. Huawei has delivered an end-to-end solution to enable Vodafone to provide its customers with a simple, efficient and secure money transfer service in the Romanian market. This service currently enables users to send and receive money, top-up airtime and make bill payments using their mobile phones.
Vodafone Director of Mobile Money Michael Joseph said: “This is the first time that Huawei has developed a technical platform for Vodafone M-Pesa and we are confident that it meets our stringent specifications to offer Romanian customers fast, secure and reliable mobile money transfer and payment services.”
James Chen, President of Vodafone Key Account at Huawei, said: “We are honoured to be the partner of choice in Romania for Vodafone, a pioneer in the mobile money space. Providing the platform for Vodafone to launch M-Pesa in Romania represents a key strategic move for Huawei as it is our first step into the financial services arena. This is a significant recognition of Huawei’s capability to deliver exactly what our customer needs to succeed in the market, our resources and dedication, and our established position as a Vodafone global strategic partner.”
