South Africa:MTN airtime reseller project launched

MTN has launched its Mobile Money Reseller Project, which lets subscribers sell airtime for any mobile network in South Africa and earn 5% cash rewards on the sale.

In advertisements in the Sunday papers, MTN said that the commission will be deposited into the reseller’s Mobile Money account.

According to MTN, this lets subscribers build and sustain a regular source of income.

MTN’s Mobile Money platform is open to South African residents who are 16 or older with a valid South African identity number.

There are certain maximum limits on the accounts, as follows:

  • Maximum daily debit spend of R1,000;
  • Maximum monthly debit spend of R25,000; and
  • Maximum account credit balance of R25,000.

According to the MTN website, certain transaction fees are also applicable to MTN customers:

  • Withdraw money at participating Pick ’n Pay and Boxer outlet: R4;
  • Pay with Cash Back reward at till: R4;
  • Debit orders: R3;
  • Send statement via email: R9; and
  • Disputed EFT credit reversal: R9.

Other transactions, including depositing and paying at a till point, sending money, and using Mobile Money to buy prepaid airtime or electricity, are listed as “free”.
