MTN, Econet ink money service pact

MTN Zambia has signed a partnership with Zimbabwean mobile money giant Econet, whose mobile money service EcoCash will see the two countries send and receive cash instantly.
The partnership with MTN is expected to see unbanked Zambians and Zimbabweans transact a maximum of US$1,000 a day, thereby increasing the financial inclusion rate of the adult population in both countries.
Speaking during the signing ceremony held in Zimbabwe on May 18, Head of MTN Mobile Money Wane Ngambi said the partnership is an indication of growth and a sign of big opportunities that cannot be covered by boundaries.
Mr Ngambi said the possibility of a Zimbabwean in Zambia to send cash to Zimbabwe via MTN Mobile Money on short code *509#; and a recipient in Zimbabwe being able to receive cash via EcoCash  and vice-versa was a product of great minds coming together in business.
