KENYA:Taxi operator introduces online pay service

A taxi services operator has launched an online pay service allowing KCB Group customers to swap their cards for service payment.

Easy Taxi Kenya Chief executive Mr Paul Ndichu told the Nation.co.ke that Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) customers will have to download the Easy Taxi App that will enable them to pay their taxi bills online thereby ensuring a secure and safer mode of doing business.

“KCB Pepea Card brings on board a new experience where customers will be able to track their expenditure as well as eliminate the dangers that come with handling of physical cash,” Mr Ndichu said on Friday.

KCB Retail Director Mrs Annastacia Kimutai said the new partnership was aimed at enhancing the range of service available to the customers by adding variety to their KCB cards.

“Embracing technology by customers boosts the country’s agenda of promoting a paperless commercial environment that is secure and safe anywhere and at any time,” she said.

Mr Ndichu said that customers in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru will enjoy cheaper services as the online based Easy Taxi App monitors distance and time spent before costing the same.

Mrs Kimutai said that the ‘commuter cash lite initiative’ would soon be expanded to other public transport providers to help fast track the government’s ongoing initiative to introduce a cashless based system.

The bank, said Mrs Kimutai, was in consultation with the Kenya Bus Management Services and Modern Coast Bus Services ahead of the planned launch of individualised electronic cards— KBS Abiria Card and Modern Coast Card respectively.

The cards will operate seamlessly through the KCB/TapToPay Near Field Communication (NFC) technology platform.

Easy Taxi App is an online based software technology company that allows users to book a taxi and track spending in real time.
