Kenya: Safaricom to Abide By Cak Order On Lipa Na M-Pesa

SAFARICOM said it will implement the directives by the Competition Authority of Kenya over charges on Lipa Na M-Pesa services within the deadlines set by the competition watchdog.

The CAK on Thursday ordered the telco to disclose to consumers all charges made on Lipa na Mpesa mobile payment service.

Safaricom's director of corporate affairs Stephen Chege said the company was in final stages of delivering Fuel Tent Cards and other Point of Sale Materials at Merchant Outlets within the stipulated deadlines by end of this month and and September 30, respectively.

"In July Safaricom undertook a 14 day consumer sensitisation campaign to educate customers about charges associated with the Lipa Na M-PESA service," Chege said. "While majority of Lipa Na M-PESA transactions are free, a few such transactions, mostly for the purchase of petroleum products, attract a small charge."
