Kenya: Safaricom promotes fuel payments over M-Pesa

 

Kenyan operator, Safaricom, has revealed an instant rewards system to incentivise customers who pay for fuel using the Lipa Na M-Pesa platform.

According to Safaricom, over 134,000 motorists have already received free talk time on the Safaricom network for every purchase of fuel worth KES 500 or more.

The company revealed that participants are eligible for free talk time if they purchase fuel from outlets operated by Total Kenya, Vivo Kenya (Shell), Oil Libya, Kenol Kobil, Gulf Energy, Gulf Energy, Pima Gas Dealers, Hashi, Galana Oil (Delta Stations), National Oil, Engen, among others.

Betty Mwangi, General Manager of Financial Services at Safaricom, revealed that Lipa Na M-Pesa was seeing a lot of traction which meant that, according to Mwangi, it is gaining acceptance as a payment channel in Kenya.
