E-Payment system boosts Ghana’s Revenue Generation

Ghana’s online payment transaction within a period of one year has witnessed a tremendous boost.

Between Dec 7, 2014 to Nov 2015 the total revenue collected via e-payment with this period amounted to Eleven million, one hundred and one thousand, seven hundred and fifty seven Ghana Cedis, fifty pesewas (GHC 11,101,757.50).

This development was as a result of the government’s implementation of e-Service application to support payment of the government services delivery online and provide postal and delivery services for 130 selected Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA’s) including the Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Police Service-CID, Ghana Tourism Authority, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Ministry of Foreign Affairs- Passport Office, Food and Drug Authority, National Communications Authority, Drivers and Vehicle License Authority, Mineral Commission, Departments of Births and Deaths, Registrar General’s Department and Ghana Immigration Services.

To strengthen the government’s online payment systems to offer an efficient and reliable service to customers on a regular basis, all existing 30 WiMAX BTS’s installed across the country has been upgraded to 4G LTE Base Stations to serve as the last mile station.

According to the Minister of Communications Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the nationwide 4G LTE network will provide access to key government service to all regional and district offices.

Speaking at the World Development Report 2016 on Digital Dividends in Accra, Dr Omane Boamah reiterated the government’s broaders commitment to bridge the infrastructure gap to enable broader participation in the information age.

“Government has completed building a National Data Centre infrastructure that will serve the public and private entities in the country. In furtherance of the government’s resolve to bridge the digital gap between the served, unserved and underserved areas of the country, the Ministry in 2015 constructed 21 Enhanced Community Information Centres (e-CIC’s) in the 10 regions of Ghana to bring internet access closer to the people” he said.
