Tanzania postal bank looks to Moshi

Tanzania Postal Bank (TPB), one of the oldest financial institutions in Tanzania, has opened a branch in Moshi district in Kilimanjaro region as part of the bank’s efforts to bring services closer to people.

“This branch will fulfill the mission of the bank to provide best and modern services including an ATM,” TPB Board Chairperson Professor Lettice Rutashobya said during the official opening by Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Ashatu Kijaji.

“Business is all about competition, in Moshi there are more than 18 banks, therefore TPB should cooperate with the government in making sure that the bank broadens its services to reach potential clients who are far from financial services, especially those residing in rural areas,” Dr. Kijaji said.

The branch is located along Aga Khan Road in the NSSF Plaza Building.  Commenting on the growth of the region, Dr. Kijaji thanked TPB for bringing development to uplift the lives of Tanzanians in addition to banking services closer to the community, she also encouraged Moshi residents to respond to opportunities that are now in Kilimanjaro region, including the Postal Bank, to open an account and to apply for loans that are offered at low interest rate.

Bank officials said TPB also wants to play its part in spreading financial inclusion and ensure services reach the unbanked population. Previously TPB had a small branch that could not meet the needs of residents of Moshi town.

Dr. Kijaji thanked TPB for the initiative aimed at bringing development to uplift the lives of Tanzanians hence encouraged Moshi residents to respond to opportunities that are now in Kilimanjaro region and to apply for loans that are offered at low interest rates.

She said the bank improvements should include making sure there are conducive office environment as well as quality customer service.
