TANZANIA:Airtel unveils card payment scheme

AIRTEL Tanzania yesterday unveiled Near Field Communication (NFC) payment service, that enables holders of Airtel Money accounts settle bills using their cards. Airtel Money Director, Mr Aijaz Khan, said “technology is dynamic.

It is key to keep up with emerging global trends by introducing innovative services that will suit the ever growing customer demands.

“Our newly introduced service will facilitate sellers and buyers with easy, reliable and secured ways of transacting and making day to day payments.”

He said those opting for the service would get a free NFC enabled card that enables easy, fast and secure payments at selected merchants with NFC reader PoS device.

Mr Khan said the services were rolled out with merchants & customers in Arusha. Ms Jane Matinde, Airtel Public Relations Officer, added that the service has numerous benefits to both merchants and customers, including safe and secure payment collection of cash.

Speaking about her experience with the Airtel Money NFC service, pharmacy owner Elizabeth Mshana said: “Airtel NFC service is a service that has really simplified the way we conduct our business.

The service is simple to use and secure.” The service is available in various supermarkets, bars, retailer shops, pharmacy, Airtel Money agents and Bars with a plan which is to roll out to other parts of the country this year.

Airtel has recently launched Timiza, another innovative service that provides Airtel customers with instant unsecured loans, repaid within a week or a month.
