Vodacom has informed clients that Nedbank ATMs will soon be unavailable for M-pesa transactions “until further notice”
Vodacom has informed M-Pesa customers via SMS that they will not be able to transact over Nedbank ATMs from 15 January 2014 “until further notice”.
The mobile operator asked clients to use Nedbank branches and M-Pesa outlets to move money to or from their accounts.
This announcement comes after Vodacom revealed in November 2013 that it plans to relaunch M-Pesa during the first quarter of 2014.
Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub said at the time that M-Pesa has “a couple of hundred thousands customers” in South Africa.
According to Nedbank, M-Pesa has 1.2-million registered users.
Asked about the announcement, a Vodacom spokesperson told MyBroadband that it is part of the revamp that they are working on.
“We’ll be giving a full update in the new year,” Vodacom said.
