Safaricom to shut M-Pesa from 09-10 September for upgrade

Safaricom’s M-Pesa system will be out-of-service for 15 hours starting Saturday night during a planned upgrade of the platform.

The last planned upgrade, set for June 15, did not take off as intended due to technical reasons, necessitating the telco to set the new date.

Stage one of the upgrade, which lasted two hours, happened on June 30 while the second phase took place for three hours on July 4.

The M-Pesa upgrade which started in July, has seen new M-Pesa features added to the platform and some functions automated, reducing the need for customers to make request at its call centre.

“We are on a journey to continue to enrich your M-Pesa experience. This is why we shall be upgrading our system starting Saturday 9th September 2017 at 10pm and will complete on Sunday 10th September 2017 at 1pm.

"During this period, all M-Pesa services will remain unavailable,” said Safaricom’s chief executive Office, Bob Collymore.
