Malawi: Airtel Money Supports Muscco Financial Services
Airtel Malawi continues to honor its customers as it stands to maintain the lead in the mobile banking sector by taking yet another step partnering with Malawi Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (MUSCCO) at a launch that was held on Friday in Lilongwe.
Announcing the news during the launch, Airtel Money Country Director, Francis Matseketsa said the partnership with MUSCCO is strategic in ensuring that Airtel Money products and services are anchored countrywide.
"Airtel Money is proud to provide instant financial solutions to the people of Malawi. Our partnership with MUSCCO is a milestone because people will cherish insant convinience," he said.
He highlighted that through this partnership, MUSCCO members registered on Airtel Money will now be able to directly access MUSCCO loans and repay their loans.
"Members registered on Airtel Money will now be able to have direct access to the loans and that their money will be safe and secure. Members will also be able to directly repay their loans securely using the unique code *521#," he explained.
Matseketsa said this is just the tip of the iceberg as it continues to grow, innovate and render services that simplify, improve customer's day to day lives and excite the financial market.
The initiative is also being supported by Feed the Future Malawi Mobile Money a project funded by USAID aiming at financial inclusion making sure that people access financial services everywhere they are.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) Feed the Future Chief of Party, Kilyelyani Kanjo said they picked digital financial services looking at the challenges that people face in accessing financial services especially loans.
She said this was one reason that caught their attention and really wanted to change things and allow people to easily access loans wherever they are without being restrained by distances.
"We know Malawians love phones. We came out and understood their problems on financial access and so we decided to provide a platform where they can easily interact with their financial service providers. We bought Airtel's idea and so we were moved to help in providing MUSCCO with technical support, capacity building and trained their staff on mobile financial services," said Kanjo.
She said she believes that this will go a long way changing people's lives in accessing the loans and making use of it in their daily operations and investments.
Commenting on the development MUSCCO Chief Executive Officer Sylvester Kadzola said he was very excited as this will take out a lot of hassles the cooperative had in helping out customers accessing loans.
"We at MUSCCO are all smiles and very excited with the development. This is a life saver to our customers who would want to access quick loans. They don't have to hassle queuing to access the loans. They will just do it wherever they are and all they want will be provided. With Airtel Money, they will also be able to pay their bills," he said.
He commended Airtel Money and Feed the Future for the development saying this will lead to brighter moments of most Malawians accessing the services.
Airtel Money has maximized its leverage in striking partnerships with institutions like Standard Bank, FDH Bank, NBS Bank, Chipiku Stores, GoTV, Zuku TV, MASM, Malawi Airlines and Water Boards across the country.
