M-PESA money safe after switchoff - Vodacom

JUST after the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) switched off all fake phones, Vodacom has said airtime and money at M-PESA account of their customers whose handsets will be affected, will be safe.

Vodacom Tanzania Managing Executive, Corporate Affairs Ms Rosalynn Mworia said that, customers’ SIM cards will remain valid and functional hence one’s airtime and money saved through M-Pesa or M-Pawa accounts will also stay intact and safe despite the switch off of handsets.

“Our customers do not have to worry about their airtime or money saved in their M-Pesa or M-Pawa accounts because SIM cards functions will not be affected by the switch off of their phones but rather the handsets which have been identified to be fake by TCRA’s registry.”

She said Vodacom customers who have had their phones switched off by the Regulatory Authority to keep their SIM cards safe and make sure they are registered because they will be able to use them once they are able to purchase genuine phones.

The leading telecom company will continue to make available handsets and educate customers over the coming month, reaching out to its customers across the country through a special country-wide road campaign that will see more than 40 vans touring the nation going to deep rural Tanzania in a bid to make life better for all Tanzanians.
