Kenya’s Barclays Bank eyes mobile payments
Barclays Bank Kenya Thursday launched a mobile card payment solution in a move that will see the lender position itself to grow its revenue.
The Barclays Mobile Point of Sale (MPOS) launched is a platform that allows consumers to make payments through their VISA, MasterCard and AMEX cards.
Mobile points of sale further allow consumers integrate their card payments with smart phone applications creating ‘mobile wallets’ which make payment methods like tap-and-go possible.
“I strongly believe that there exists enough room in the mobile card payment space for competitors to emerge and gain a competitive advantage,” said Barclays Bank Kenya, Managing Director Jeremy Awori.
Barclays Bank has partnered with Pewin taxi cab to roll out the solution on a pilot project and is in the process of extending similar partnerships to other firms.
“MPOS will enable businesses that previously operated on a cash only basis to increase their sales and expand their customer base by enhancing their payment solutions,” said Awori.
