Ivory Coast: 7.2% increase in mobile money service rates

A 7.2% increase in pricing for all mobile money services in Côte d'Ivoire came into effect this Monday, February 25, 2019, learned APA from operators in the sector.

The tariff change covers basic offers, including cash withdrawals, money transfers to subscribers in the same network, transfer to other networks, international transfer and services to partners.

According to a note from a mobile operator, "the 2019 tax schedule imposes a 7.2% tax on Mobile Money operators", which motivates this "readjustment" of tariffs on their services.

Money transfer activity is booming in Ivory Coast. Throughout the country, remittance companies and their intermediaries offer people money transfer services via their platforms or mobile phone.

The money transfers generate an estimated transaction amount of several billion CFA francs, but the tax still falls short of the potential expected by the tax administration, which has difficulty in understanding the real volume of money transfers made by mobile money .

Orange, Mtn and Moov are the three operators that share the mobile networks in Côte d'Ivoire with more than 30 million subscribers as of June 30, 2017, according to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Côte d'Ivoire (ARTCI ).
