Ghana to host the third West Africa Telecom Summit

Ghana will be hosting the third West Africa Telecom Summit on 4 April this year. The summit, which is organised by the Mobile World Magazine, will seek to push the frontiers of the ever-growing telecom market in the West Africa region forward to facilitate social and economic development.

The Group Publisher of Mobile World magazine, Akin Naphtal, in an interview with BiztechAfrica, noted that that the summit will deliver thought-provoking insights from the prime movers of the industry and give participants the opportunity to hear and network with them in a structured atmosphere of panel discussion.

Naphtal said the event aims to address the major challenges the operators are facing. “Among these are the data explosion, where we have increased data usage in the industry, with the smart phone driving growth in broadband and users. We’re also looking at the regulatory work, the cloud market, further investments can happen within the sector, as well as mobile valued added services and growing trends within the industry.”

He says the summit will help develop the telecommunication market by bringing stakeholders together to add a holistic approach to the challenges within the industry. “Let’s look at what we currently have, where are the areas we can develop more. How can we increase employment, how can we improve on our services? We’re going to have live discussions from the users of these technologies coming together. We’re going to hear what the government has planned. Various issues like tax that will be discussed. It’s about bringing these together and furthering improvements in the sector,” he says.
