GHANA:MTN Mobile Money Attains ISO/IEC Certification
MTN Mobile Money is the first to receive this certification in Ghana’s telecommunications industry.
According to MTN, the ISO/IEC 27001:2013 is an information security standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC).
The certification specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system within the context of Mobile Money operations in Ghana. It also includes requirements for the assessment and treatment of information security risks tailored to the needs of the Mobile Money service.
MTN Ghana CEO Ebenezer Asante who announced the certification at a recent media engagement said, “this gives credence to MTN’s commitment to conform to international standards in the delivery of Mobile Money services. MTN Mobile Money is working to provide the highest standards of service to its customers.
Mr. Asante continued, “This is further proof that MTN Ghana is interested in establishing the right measures to protect customer interests and improve customer experience. This certification should further boost the confidence customers have in MTN Mobile Money services.”
Mr. Ebenezer Asante reiterated the need for MTN to work continuously to improve its systems, processes and procedures,as the Company works to expand the base of Mobile Money users.“After the recent upgrade to the Ericsson platform, we are providing another reason why our customers would choose to do business with us,” he stated.
He averred that, certification body LRQAis the world’s leading provider of independent assessment services including certification, validation, verification and training across a broad spectrum of standards and schemes, with recognition from over 50 accreditation bodies.
MTN Mobile Money has been considered a fast, simple, convenient, secure and affordable way of transferring money, making payments and doing other transactions using a mobile phone.
The service is offered by MTN in partnership with 10 banks. Services are available to customers on MTN Mobile Money platform includemoney transfer, MTN airtime top-up, bill payment (DSTV, ECG Postpaid, MTN Postpaid, School fees, etc.), payment of employee salaries, purchase of airline tickets as well as other goods and services and currently has six million registered customers and over 33,000 merchants in Ghana.
