Airtel Ghana, on Thursday launched a new contactless data package called "Smart way to Pay", a technology that allows its customers to pay for their goods and services in a convenient, easier, instant and secured manner.

The package launched in collaboration with Verifone Mobile Money would provide Airtel merchants and the numerous point of sale outlets across the country with near field communications (NFC) enabled devices that would provide both merchants and customers a wonderful payment experience.

Ms Rosy Fynn, Customer Experience Director of Airtel Ghana, speaking at the launch, said this innovative product and service would improve the mobile payment ecosystem to promote a cashless economy.

Ms Fynn explained that all the customer needed to do was a contactless tap at the NFC device with their mobile phone to effect payment via their mobile wallet starting with food outlets of KFC and Airport Koala Supermarket country wide.

"Customers without NFC-enabled devices would receive a free sticker that would enable them to enjoy this wonderful payment experience and also be made available at all the customer touch points where Airtel Money is accepted", she explained.

She said this was a more efficient mode of payment as it reduced the number of steps customers had to go through to make mobile money payments.

Ms Fynn indicated that Airtel Money was thus making sure it's 11,000 registered agents, 500 merchant outlets, 80 shops that accept Airtel Money, seven partner banks and over 215 ATMs nationwide enjoy a seamless experience with the service.
