Algeria: Experimental mobile payment interoperability operation to be launched in May

An experimental operation on interoperability between the various players in mobile payment (m-payment) will be launched in mid-May, according to an official at the Banque Nationale d'Algérie (BNA), which is involved in this operation alongside Algérie Poste and Al-Salam Bank.

In a statement to APS, BNA Marketing Director Sabrina Belouchani, speaking on the sidelines of a study day on “Innovative financial inclusion in Algeria: challenges and prospects”, said that this experimental operation would be limited, in its preliminary phase, to the three aforementioned establishments, before being extended to other banks, in anticipation of the official launch of mobile payment interoperability.

The main aim of this experimental period is to guarantee the security of m-payment, and to overcome any technical problems, according to the same official.

The widespread introduction of m-payment is made possible by the switch provided by the Société d'Automatisation des Transactions Interbancaires et Monétique (SATIM).
