The NMB Bank on Thursday launched mobile-phone bill payment service to enable customers to settle tax obligations and paying for utility receipts.
The service allows over 550,000 bank customers to pay their bills using mobile phones -Tigo, Vodacom, Airtel and Zantel – to access their accounts and settle their dues without visiting a bank nor revenue offices.
NMB Chief Executive Officer, Mark Wiessing said the mobile bills payment service affirmed the bank’s commitment to improve convenience to its customers through use of technology.
“The mobile bills payment service is a convenient, affordable and safe way to pay utility bills from the palm of your hands,” Mr Wiessing said during the launching.
He said the bank’s mobile bills payment service facilitates payment of DStv, DAWASCO bills and Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) property tax and personal tax.
On behalf of DAWASCO, Moses Balagaju said the mobile bills payment NMB mobile will offer their customers not only a convenient way to pay bills, but also affordable means to pay their water bills without traveling a long distance.
On his part TRA’s Commissioner General Harry Kitilya said the mobile-phone tax paying service has come at the right time as easing revenue payment is the authority’s one of major objectives.
“We are certain this is a very important platform to enhance tax collections needed for various development projects. I urge tax payers to make best use of this service,” the Commissioner General said.
DStv Representative Mr Peter Fauel said “by combining our resources and commitment, we can make people’s lives much easier.”
To date NMB mobile service allow mobile-phone customers to access banking services such as balance view, money transfer service, mini-statement and mobile phone air time top up.
