Airtel on Wednesday 19^th December partnered with Ecobank on Airtel Money.  Corporate Affairs Manager June Rose Johnson welcomed everyone by saying that Airtel and Ecobank are trying to take mobile phone into business. She further said that one only needs to get account in Ecobank and make Airtel Money transfers.

Mr. Mohamed Bah who is the domestic bank manager at Ecobank said in his statement that the Airtel Money product, branded “ECOBANK Mobile” has been designed to take banking to the doorsteps of ordinary citizens. Sierra Leoneans can now use their mobile phones to conduct basic financial transactions – even if they do not have a bank account irrespective of their location, from the comfort of their homes, villages and towns. Ecobank Mobile provides customers with a “mobile wallet” that allows them to use their mobile phones in much the same way as a Bank Debit Card. Ecobank Mobile provides customers with increased security and flexibility, greatly reducing the need to carry cash and ensures prompt payment for goods and services.

Head of Airtel Money Olayemi Jinadu said that Airtel is the forth largest in the world and Airtel is in 19 countries in the world presently. Customers can now check their balances at home or anywhere. No matter how this country is small, we have about thirteen banks and four mobile operators. Over 50% of Sierra Leoneans have mobile phones and less than 5% have bank account. On that note, Airtel decided to Partner with Ecobank.
